PERAMBALUR: The Perambalur district administration is working towards securing the Central Government's notification for its 3,000-acre, multi-product Special Economic Zone (SEZ) along National Highway– 45 during November-December.
The Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation (TIDCO) website states that approval for the
SEZ has been received from the Department of Commerce, Government of India. Joint venture partners TIDCO and GVK Power and Infrastructure Ltd.(GVKPL) have formed a special purpose vehicle company _ GVK Perambalur Pvt. As for Panchayat poromboke land, the process of acquisition was on the verge of completion, according to Collector M. Vijayakumar.
The district had a vantage location and would ideally serve the business interests of multifarious sectors including IT, manufacturing, engineering goods, power equipment and textiles. “Once the SEZ notification is made, industrial activities will commence,” the Collector said, observing that with the SEZ the district would be in a position to shed its ‘industrially backward' tag.
The MRF unit coming up at Naranamangalam on 350 acres was the biggest of the company in the country. It would employ 3,000 people and was expected to start operations in the next six months. To serve the cause of industrialisationbetter, the district was also making substantial progress on the education front, he said. The administration has already received the government order for construction of the Government Medical College at Kunnam. The tender process would be initiated with the finalisation of funds.
