Nagpur: After a gap of two years, Mihan-SEZ has a got a full time development commissioner (DC) as well as an assistant DC. The new officers are SK Sharma and Akram Ali respectively. With this, the office of DC-Mihan is now functioning with full strength. The other officers in the team include a specified officer, authorized officer and officials from the customs department.
A DC is an officer of Indian Trade Services (ITS) posted at a SEZ. The proposals of units working in the
SEZ are taken up with the board of approvals (BoA) under ministry of commerce through this officer. The comments of this officer hold importance and are considered by the BoA before taking a decision on giving clearance to the proposals. Having a full time DC is expected to speed up the process of getting clearances.
The last DC, Ved Prakash, was transferred two years ago. However, there was no replacement named after that. The Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC) had taken up the matter time and again, saying that work at Mihan has slowed down for want of a full time commissioner. Till then, NPS Moga, development commissioner of SEEPZ Mumbai, had additional charge of Mihan.
