Indian Drug Exporters Face Mandatory Inspections |
Indian pharmaceutical manufacturers will have to undergo more stringent vetting procedures before receiving export licenses, according to Dr. Surinder Singh, Drug Controller General of India (DGCI), according to an article on ExpressIndia.com.
Central to the new proposals are that all companies seeking export licenses will have a physical inspection of their manufacturing facilities. The new measures lie alongside plans to develop a track-and-trace system for all packs of exported medicines from India, based on GS1-compliant barcodes carrying unique identification (UID) serial numbers.
The measures are designed to drive spurious and counterfeit drug manufacturers out of the market and restore India's reputation as the world's leading producer of quality generic medicines.
