INDORE: In an attempt to woo traders from gems and jewellery industry to shift their base from Surat to Indore, Audyogik Kendra Vikas Nigam (AKVN) is coming up with a dedicated special economic zone in Rau. State's industry minister Kailash Vijayvargiya has already held a series of talks with the traders in Surat in this regard.
The project is being developed on public, private partnership (PPP) model in an area, measuring 116 hectare (Ha) with a total estimated cost of Rs 161 crore.
SEZ cum domestic tariff area would cover about 104 hectares.
AKVN (I) MD Manish Singh said, "We have already moved the detailed project report (DPR) for the proposed diamond park to MP Industrial Development Corporation (MPSIDC) and the state government nearly a fortnight ago. Now, the file will move to chief secretary and the state level empowered committee (SLEC)."
"The project is likely to get state cabinet's nod by the month-end. After that, the developer will start work on the construction of basic infrastructure for the park, which may take three years' time. Four-year time will be given to the developer for the final construction of building for the park. The developer will have to sell out all the plots, falling under the park, over a period of 8 years.
Rosy Blue, the only diamond polishing and cutting firm in Pithampur, is also likely to turn a developer of the project.
MP Sarafa Association president Nirmal K Bhura said, "A dedicated SEZ will attract people from the industry towards Indore which is well connected to the major cities of the country, including Mumbai, New Delhi and Amritsar."
