Special economic zones (SEZs) have been falling out of favour with India Inc, but the Commerce Ministry is trying to put an end to that trend reports CNBC-TV18’s Rituparna Bhuyan.
SEZs in India are governed by the
SEZ Act and a set of rules, which is what the Ministry is looking to alter. The points concentrated on are land usage, labour related issues as well as other rules and the basic objective to relax the rules for the convenience of SEZ developers. The government has already started taking comments from the industry and representatives of state governments for their view on the same.
Sources say that a discussion paper on this issue is expected to come in the next 10 days, and this entire exercise is likely to be wound up by 31st October.
