AHMEDABAD: Adani Port and Special Economic Zone Ltd (APSEZ), a part of diversified Adani group, is developing a ceramic cluster at Mundra in Kutch district. The company on Friday also signed memorandums of understanding (MoUs) with ceramic tile makers and two industry associations for establishing their operations in the cluster.
"Adani group is developing a ceramic park at Mundra, where various infrastructure services such as land, power, water and natural among others will be made available to ceramic industry," Amit Uplenchwar, president, Special Economic Zone, APSEZ, said at the three-day Vibrant Ceramics Expo and Summit 2016, which was inaugurated by chief minister Vijay Rupani in Ahmedabad.
According to the Adani group, the cluster is being developed in its integrated port-based infrastructure zone, which is an ideal investment destination for ceramic industries to expand their business globally by setting up manufacturing units.
APSEZ signed MoUs with Metro Group, Italica Tiles, Gravity Ceramic, Morbi Ceramic Association and Sabarkantha Ceramic Association. "While the companies have signed agreement to set up their vitrified tiles manufacturing units in Adani
SEZ in Mundra, the two trade bodies' MoUs pertained to facilitating their members in establishing their units," said K G Kundariya, president, Morbi Ceramic Association.
"These MoUs entail an estimated investment of Rs 500 crore and the proposed units will be focused on exports," added Nilesh Jetpariya, joint president, Morbi Ceramics Association.
Morbi accounts for around 75% of India's Rs 27,000 crore ceramic industry. Touted to be the largest such cluster in the country, Morbi exported ceramic tiles worth Rs 4,200 crore in the financial year 2015-16 and expects the exports to increase to Rs 6,000 crore in fiscal 2016-17.
"Certain level of quality and credibility is required for doing business in the international market and Morbi at present is marching ahead in terms of quality and credibility. This exhibition will help ceramic industry make major strides into global markets," said Rupani terming the expo as a pre-summit to c next month.
"The objective of this ceramics exhibition is to take Morbi tile makers to the next level and encourage them for taking up advanced market research in terms of design, colour and manufacturing," said Jagat Shah, CMD, Global Network, the organizer of the summit.
