Rolls Royce lists India among key global markets, seeks lower import duty |
NEW DELHI: British carmaker Rolls Royce has said that India will be a key market for the company's ultra-luxury vehicles as it drives in new models in the country. However, the company has pitched for lower import duty in order to give an impetus to sales of luxury vehicles.
The company, which has sold 250 cars in India since 2005, sells three models — Phantom, Ghost and Wraith — through five dealerships.
"India is a key market for Rolls-Royce Motor Cars... With India's increasing growth in ultra high net worth individuals and our extensive dealership network in place, we feel in a strong position in the long-term," said Sven Ritter, General Manager for Rolls-Royce's Asia Pacific region.
The carmaker drove in its latest offering — Ghost Series II — in the domestic market, priced at Rs 4.50 crore.
Ritter said India is among the top five markets for the Ghost model in the Asia Pacific region but did not divulge any sales number.
"We certainly see more growth. Sentiments are positive following the new Government taking over. But one thing that could change is the tax system. Taxes are very high. Though there are several other issues which are to be addressed by the new government, we will certainly welcome lower taxes for the luxury segment," Ritter said.
