India to allow duty-free cotton exports from Oct 1 |

India will allow duty free exports of surplus cotton from Oct 1 in a bid to ensure that farmers get fair price for their produce without hurting local industries.
'From Oct 1 no license will be required for cotton exports. There will be no corporate tax or any duties on the exports of cotton,' Commerce Secretary Rahul Khullar said Thursday.
However, he said only surplus cotton would be exported.
Officials from the ministry of agriculture, textiles and commerce are scheduled to meet on Sept 1 to determine the modalities for export surplus.
'Officials from the three ministries will sit together to decide on exportable amount,' said Khullar, adding the exports would be stopped if the production was not sufficient to meet the local textiles industry's demand.
Khullar said the government would take all necessary measures to balance the interests of cotton farmers, traders and textile industries.
