DRI detains consignment worth 4cr at Mundra port |
AHMEDABAD: The Ahmedabad unit of Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) on Thursday detained a consignment worth Rs 4 crore at Mundra port. The consignment belongs to an Uttar Pradesh-based firm and was imported under Export Promotion Capital Good (EPCG) scheme.
On the basis of a tip-off and specific intelligence, DRI officials found that K K Milk Fresh India Ltd, a firm based out of Ramabai Nagar in UP had imported capital goods from Mundra port by falsely declaring to wrongly claim benefit of exemption under EPCG scheme.
"A consignment of the importer was kept on hold at Mundra and on examination, it was found that the goods were second hand/used machinery and same are not allowed to import under EPCG scheme. The consignment valued at Rs 4 crore has been detained. Further, investigation in the case is going on," said a DRI official.
EPCG Scheme under Import Export Policy allows import of capital goods for pre-production, production and post-production at Zero customs duty. The goods should be newly bought and not second hand.
