New Delhi, Sep 7 (PTI) The government has imposed an anti-dumping duty on import of a chemical, mainly used in different types of foam mattresses, from China and Korea after finding that these countries were "dumping" it into India.
India has slapped the duty of USD 2601 per tonne on imports of 'flexible slabstock polyol', the finance ministry said in a notification.
The decision to impose the duty was based on preliminary findings by the Directorate General of Anti-Dumping and Allied Duties, the designated authority in the commerce ministry.
The findings showed that the goods were being exported to India below their normal value, leading to dumping of the product.
The duty imposed would be effective for a period of five years, it said.
Unlike safeguard duty, which is levied in a uniform way, anti-dumping duty varies from product to product and country to country.
