VISAKHAPATNAM: Thailand offers various opportunities for investors and also accords top priority to the ease of doing business, said Consul General of Royal Thai Consulate-General, Somsak Triamjangarun. Emphasising on the importance given to investments, he said Thailand ranks 18th in the world when it comes to ease of doing business.

Participating in session on 'Investment and trade opportunities in Thailand' organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Vizag zone, on Friday, he said Thailand provides a huge advantage to investors, especially in terms of infrastructure and availability of land.

Furthermore, he said that the approval process for setting up of business is quick in Thailand. "The approval from the government takes minimal time and investors don't have to go through a tedious process while setting up their industry.

Pointing out the advantages, he said that India has a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with both Thailand and Asean, which allows imports and exports of nearly 80 items without any restrictions. He said that this can be beneficial for Indian companies involved in the export-import business.

At the same time, he said that their consulate would also help companies from India find partners if they are keen on expanding operations in Thailand.

Meanwhile, CII Vizag Zone vice-chairman Neeraj Sarad invited investments in the tourism sector from Thailand. He said Thailand has expertise in tourism and both countries should join hands to boost tourism in and around Vizag.

Pointing out that air connectivity between Vizag and Bangkok is of prime importance for trade and tourism to grow on both sides, he said Thailand can also benefit from manufacturing sector, IT, pharma, textiles and education by investing in India.

During the discussion, members of both the countries stressed on the need to urge airlines to start flights between Vizag and Bangkok.
