Rupee Up 5 Paise Against U.S. Dollar In Early Trade |
The Indian rupee rose by 5 paise to Rs. 45.27 against the U.S. dollar in early trade on the Interbank Foreign Exchange on Monday, supported by a better opening in the stock market, although dollar gains overseas restricted the appreciation of the domestic currency.
The rupee had gained 16 paise to close at Rs. 45.32/33 against the U.S. dollar in the previous session on Friday on dollar-selling by exporters amid a marginal recovery in local equities.
Dealers said a higher opening in the stock market mainly kept the rupee sentiment firm, but dollar gains against other currencies overseas restricted the rise.
The Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark Sensex shot up by 114.075 points, or 0.64 per cent, to 17,814.98 in opening trade Monday.
