The Indian rupee depreciated by 10 paise to Rs44.52 a dollar in the early trade today, weighed down by dollar's gain overseas.
At the Interbank Foreign Exchange market, the domestic unit ended flat at Rs44.42/43 a dollar in the previous session.
Forex dealers said weaker Asian currencies against the American currency and demand for the US dollar from importers, weighed on the rupee sentiment.
The Bombay Stock Exchange index Sensex fell by 88.28 points, or 0.43% to 20,251.61 points in the opening trade today.
