Rupee opens lower in opening trade |
Mumbai: The Indian rupee on Tuesday opened lower against the US dollar ahead of the Railway Budget.
The partially convertible rupee opened at 54.075 a dollar against Monday’s close of 53.8762.
At 9.37am, the home currency was trading at 54.0775 down 0.37%.
Sensex, the benchmark index, of the BSE, lost 0.57% to 19,222.13 points.
Traders said that month-end dollar demand from oil firms will also likely help the dollar-rupee pair later in the session.
Most Asian currencies were also trading weaker compared with the dollar.
