Rupee opens lower at 61.66 per dollar |
Mumbai: The Indian rupee on Thursday opened lower at 61.66 per dollar as against its Wednesday’s close of 61.54.
The dollar index, which measures the US currency’s strength against major currencies, was trading at 80.97, down 0.06% from its previous close of 81.02.
The yield on India’s 10-year benchmark bond was trading at 8.646% compared with its previous close of 8.639%. Bond yields and prices move in opposite directions.
On Wednesday, India reported its wholesale price index (WPI)-based inflation data moderated significantly to a five-month low at 6.16% in December from its 14-month high of 7.52% a month ago.
At 9.09am, the domestic currency was trading at 61.64 per dollar, down 0.16% from its previous close. The 30-share BSE Sensex was trading at 21,366.91 points, up 0.36% from its last close.
