Rupee opens higher in early trade |
Mumbai: The Indian rupee opened higher at 54.83 a dollar on Wednesday against its Tuesday’s close of 54.93. At 9.10am, the home currency was trading at 54.69, up 0.41% while India’s benchmark index, Sensex, was trading at 19,254.20 points, up 0.58%.
Asian shares extended gains on Wednesday as Wall Street’s record close encouraged investors to take on more risk amid signs of a continuing US economic recovery and globally accommodative monetary conditions.
Traders said they expect the dollar-rupee pair to move in a 54.60 to 55.00 range initially in the session. All Asian currencies were trading stronger compared with the dollar.
