Rupee opens around 0.5% lower at 62.87 per dollar |
Mumbai: The Indian rupee on Thursday opened lower against the dollar, tracking weakness in the Asian currency markets.
At 9.07am, the rupee was trading at 62.87 per dollar, down 0.47% from its previous close of 62.5775, after the minutes from last month’s Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meeting showed that the Fed taper is likely in coming months.
The equity benchmark Sensex lost 0.27%, or 55.87 points, in the pre-opening trade.
Since January this year, the rupee has lost 12.52% against the dollar and is the third biggest loser among Asian currencies after the Indonesian rupiah and the Japanese yen, which lost 16.37% and 13.58%, respectively.
