Rupee Loses 17 Paise Against US Dollar in Early Trade |
Mumbai, Aug 24 (PTI) The Indian rupee fell by 17 paise to Rs 45.80 per US dollar in early trade on the Interbank Foreign Exchange today, weighed down by weakness of the euro and other Asian currencies against the greenback overseas and a lower opening in the equity market. Forex dealers said strengthening of the dollar against other Asian currencies and the euro and a subdued opening in the domestic stock market mainly put pressure on the rupee.
In addition, month-end dollar demand from oil companies also put pressure on the rupee, they said.
The rupee ended 4 paise higher at Rs 45.63/64 against the American currency in the previous session on the back of dollar-selling by exporters amid firm equity markets. Meanwhile, the Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark Sensex fell by 92.97 points, or 0.56 per cent, to 16,405.50 in opening trade today.
