Rupee gains 24 paise against dollar in early trade |
The rupee opened higher by 23 paise at 67.12/$ against US Dollar Monday as against the previous close of 67.39/$. The rupee gained against the dollar at the Interbank Foreign Exchange today as exporters and banks stepped up dollar sale amid higher opening in the domestic equity market.
Besides, weakness in the dollar against some other currencies overseas gave the rupee some muscle.
On the economy front, the government will issue Index of industrial production and Consumer Price Index -based inflation data for May and June, respectively, on 12 July while Wholesale Price Index -based inflation data for June on 14 July.
The Indian currency ended higher by three paise at 67.36/$. The local unit had hit a high of 67.24 and a low of 67.28. The Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) reference rate for the dollar stood at 67.45 and for Euro stood at 74.71. The RBI’s reference rate for the Yen stood at 67.15; reference rate for the Great Britain Pound (GBP) stood at 87.3182.
