Mumbai, Feb 1 (PTI) Snapping its two-session gaining streak, the rupee today depreciated by 21 paise against the US currency on dollar buying by importers and banks amid stable trend in equity markets.
In lacklustre trading at the Interbank Foreign Exchange (Forex) market, the domestic currency closed 21 paise lower at 46.37/38 a dollar. It moved in a range of 46.27 and 46.45 a dollar.
Dealers attributed fall in the rupee to dollar buying by importers and banks. A strong dollar overseas also impacted the rupee sentiment, they added.
The dollar remained at six-month high against the basket of currencies after Friday's stronger than expected economic data announced by the US, suggesting strong economic recovery.
The Indian benchmark Sensex today ended barely flat while Asian stocks closed narrowly mixed.
Meanwhile, global crude oil prices were trading near USD 73 a barrel in London.
