Rupee falls 11 paise against US dollar to 54.73 |
Indian rupee declined against the greenback in morning trade on Wednesday. Rupee was down by 11 paise or 0.21% against USD to Rs 54.73 compared to previous close of 54.62 (09.24 a.m.).
''Indian rupee got weaker as dollar demand from major oil firms pushed the dollar higher against rupee. Indian rupee got a support from custodian banks as demand for INR prevented the further fall. Indian rupee is expected to continue in the range as dollar demand from oil firms and companies could be capped after central banks statement to start a special window to provide exporters dollar credit,'' said Emkay Global Financial Services.
In the spot market, the Dollar Index decreased 0.09% to 79.71 (22:44 ET).
Euro - USD was trading at 1.32 down 0.12% while USD - Japanese Yen was trading at 88.15 down 0.72% (22:53 ET).
At 9.25 a.m., the Sensex was trading down 16.24 points or 0.08% at 19,970.58 with 14 components falling. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading lower by 12.55 points or 0.21% at 6,044.05 with 31 components falling.
