Rupee ends lower at 45.61 |
The rupee on Thursday depreciated by 23 paise against the US currency on fresh demand for dollar from banks and importers in spite of persistent capital inflows from foreign funds into the equity markets.
At the Interbank Foreign Exchange (Forex) market, the domestic currency closed 23 paise lower at 45.61/62 a dollar.
It hovered in a range of 45.63 and 45.40 during the day. Dealers said fresh demand for dollar from banks and importers mainly affected the rupee value.
The Indian benchmark Sensex ended higher by 69.63 points or 0.41 per cent in view of persistent capital inflow from foreign funds into equity market.
Meanwhile, oil tumbled below $82 a barrel in Asian trade on Thursday as investors took profits from a price surge that followed data showing stronger US energy demand. The Reserve Bank of India fixed the reference rate for the dollar at Rs 45.47 and for the euro at Rs 62.02.
The rupee premium for the forward dollar ended lower on fresh receiving by exporters.
