Rupee Down By 4 Paise Against US Dollar in Early Trade |
MUMBAI: The rupee depreciated by 4 paise to Rs 44.93 against the US dollar in early trade on the Interbank Foreign Exchange on Thursday, tracking dollar gains against the euro and other currencies overseas and a lower start in the equity market.
Dealers said dollar strength against the euro and Asian currencies overseas and a lower opening in the stock market mainly put pressure on the rupee.
The rupee ended five paise lower at Rs 44.89/90 against the US currency in yesterday's trade on late dollar demand and substantial capital outflows in the last few days.
Meanwhile, the Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark sensex fell by 41.49 points, or 0.23%, to 17,509.14 in opening trade today.
