Rupee Down By 2 Paise Against Dollar In Early Trade |
The Indian rupee fell by 2 paise to Rs 46.06 per U.S. dollar in opening trade on the Interbank Foreign Exchange on Friday, supported by month—end dollar demand from oil importers and a lower opening in the stock market.
Forex dealers said in addition to month—end demand for the American currency from importers, a lower opening in the stock market put pressure on the rupee.
On Thursday, the rupee had closed below the Rs 46 per U.S. dollar—mark for the first time in 11 months, losing 5 paise to Rs 46.04/05 amid sustained demand for the U.S. currency from importers.
Meanwhile, the Bombay Stock Exchange Sensex was down by 23.69 points, or 0.15 per cent, at 16,122.64 in opening trade on Friday.
