Rupee Loses 15 Paise vs US Dollar in Early Trade |
Mumbai The Indian rupee lost 15 paise to Rs 50.45 per US dollar in early trade on the Interbank Foreign Exchange today due to appreciation of the American currency against the euro and other rivals overseas and a weak opening in the domestic equity market.
Increased demand for the American currency from banks and importers also put pressure on the rupee.
Dealers attributed the rupee's fall to dollar gains against the euro overseas and a lower opening in the stock market.
The rupee had closed 18 paise lower at Rs 50.30/31 per US dollar in yesterday's trade.
Meanwhile, the Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark Sensex was down by 83.00 points, or 0.49 per cent, at 17,035.74 in opening trade today.
