Reserve Bank of India (RBI) deputy governor, T Rabi Sankar has been given a second one year extension effective from May 3 after an approval by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC), the Department of Personnel & Training announced.
He is in charge of the foreign exchange, currency management and government accounts departments at the RBI has spent more than 35 years at the central bank.
Sankar is one among four deputy governors at RBI and among the two who come up the ranks at the regulator.
Earlier this year another deputy governor Michael Patra retired after a five year term. Delhi based economist Poonam Gupta was appointed as the new deputy governor last month.
Sankar’s colleague deputy governor Rajeshwar Rao will also complete his second one-year extension on October 8, 2025. Rao who has steered the crucial departments of regulation, risk monitoring and enforcement since 2020 is also a career central banker like Patra and Sankar.
