Indian rupee rises for 5th straight day; up 6 paise at 61.07 Vs dollar |
Mumbai: Continuing its winning streak for the fifth consecutive day, the rupee appreciated by 6 paise to trade at 61.07 against the dollar in early trade Tuesday on sales of the US currency by banks and exporters and sustained foreign capital inflows.
Strengthening of other currencies against the dollar overseas, also supported the local currency.
Asian Stocks mostly edged up today, while tighter money market conditions in the euro zone helped the euro climb to a five-year peak against the yen and a six-week high against the dollar.
The rupee had surged to its highest level in nearly four months in intra-day trade and fell back to close with a 28 paise gain at 61.13 against the dollar yesterday, boosted by stocks that climbed to a record after BJP won three out of four state assembly elections.
