Indian rupee opens at 61.27 per dollar; down 19 paise |
The Indian rupee declined in the early trade on Wednesday. It has opened lower by 19 paise at 61.27 per dollar versus 61.08 Tuesday.
The euro nursed only modest losses, having regained quite a bit of ground. The dollar index is trading around 81.50 levels.
The Indian rupee on Tuesday rose by nine paise to end at one-week high of 61.08 against the greenback on fresh dollar selling by banks and exporters.
The rupee resumed steady at 61.17 per dollar and hovered in a range of 61.07 and 61.22 per dollar before ending at 61.08 per dollar, showing a gain of nine paise or 0.15 percent from its last close.
This is its highest closing value since 60.84 versus US dollar on August 5.
According to S Venkatesh of IDBI Bank, the rupee closed strong in yesterday's trade on positive equity market sentiments.
