Indian rupee down 13 paise at 66.55 against US dollar in opening trade |
Indian rupee opened 13 paise down at 66.55 against US dollar at the Interbank Foreign Exchange (forex) market on Friday following increased demand of American currency among importers and banks. The local currency was trading flat at 66.55 level and closed at 66.42 level against US dollar on Thursday. Domestic stock markets opened lower following mixed global cues. At 9.36 am, Sensex was trading 114.45 points down at 28,930.83, while NSE Nifty was trading 40.60 points down at 8,911.90.
In the overseas markets, US dollar was trading firm aganst other emerging market currencies. Asian currencies were trading on a weak note against the US dollar.
The American dollar in the recent has been under immense pressure on account of US jobs data that weakened the hopes of a September rate hike.
