India's foreign tourist arrivals up 4.5% at 6.69 lakh in March 2014 |
Foreign tourist arrivals (FTAs) in India went up by 4.5 per cent to 6.69 lakh in March 2014 from 6.40 lakh in the same month of last year, an official statement said here today. With this, FTAs during January-March this year have grown by 4.9 per cent to 21.27 lakh as compared to the level of 20.27 lakh recorded in the corresponding period of 2013, it said. The statement said foreign exchange earnings (FEEs) from tourism grew by 7.4 per ent to Rs Rs.10,257 crore in March this year as compared to Rs. 9,553 crore in the same month of last year. FEEs from tourism in rupee terms during January-March 2014 were Rs. 32,809 crore with a growth of 8.4% over the level of Rs. 30,270 crore earned inthe corresponding period of 2013. FEEs from tourism in US dollar terms during March 2014 were $ 1.679 billion, down 4.4 per cent from $ 1.757 billion in the same month last year. During January-March this year, FEEs in dollar terms amounted to $ 5.308 billion, a deline of 5 per ent from $ 5.587 billion achieved in the corresponding period of 2013, the statement added.
