India Chemical 2014 kicks off with an industry meet in Vadodra |
AHMEDABAD: On Thursday, Vadodara hosted an industry meet ahead of the 8th biennial International Exhibition and Conference-India Chem 2014.
The industry meet was a kick off for the flagship event in October this year which is a collaborative initiative by the Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals, Government of India, Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (Ficci) along with the partner state-Gujarat.
According to the organizers, the aim of today's function was to interact with the industry and brief them on next series of events that would culminate in holding the actual mega event to be held from 9th-11th October 2014 in Mumbai.
This event meet provided an opportunity for networking, positive interaction among various stakeholders and also to discuss the progress being made in the preparations for India Chem 2014.
Inderjit Pal, secretary, Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals, Government of India said, "India Chem is an important platform for networking, exchange of ideas, creation of awareness of new products and technologies, and exploration of possibilities for enhancement of trade. This also provides an excellent opportunity for the Indian chemical industry to show case its capabilities and strengths to the world chemical community."
The focus for this year's event will be on growth with emphasis on sustainability and green chemistry.
Deepak Mehta, chairman Ficci National Chemical Committee, said "Green chemistry is crucial to increase the export growth so that we can steadily increase our share in the global chemical market. Through various efforts, the industry is incorporating technologies and process that lead the country to the goal of being a leader of chemical exports."
India is the sixth largest chemicals manufacturer in the world and the third largest in Asia with a size worth 108.4 billion, which accounts for about three per cent of the global chemical industry.
