KANPUR: Merchants Chamber of Uttar Pradesh and Federation of Indian Exporter Organisations jointly organised a meeting-cum-interactive session in association with Council of Leather Exports and Export Promotion Bureau, Government of Uttar Pradesh on Foreign Trade Policy (pre-policy suggestions), customs and banking related issues, on Thursday.

Chief guest AK Pujari, director general foreign trade (DGFT), said that DGFT makes the policy product-wise and location-wise and tries to maximize the foreign trade from the country. He said some exporters find it difficult to take benefit of the policy. He asked such exporters to be in touch with the local office.

Himanshu Gupta, commissioner, Customs and Central Excise, Lucknow with additional charge of Kanpur, assured that he has made note and shall instruct accordingly to the satisfaction of exporters.

RK Jalan, chairman, Council of leather exports, requested the DGFT to declare Unnao a town of excellence for benefitting the exporters of the region under provisions of the export policy. He also submitted a demand list to DGFT for providing certain benefits in the Export policy 2014-2019.

Guest of honour Mukul Singhal, principal secretary, Micro Small and Medium Enterprises, UP, also suggested that at least ten towns in UP where export turnover is above Rs 1,000 crores must also be granted status of towns of export excellence.

He also said that the state government is making sure that many infrastructural projects get completed by the year-end.

Ajai Sahai, director general, Federation of Indian Exporters Organisation said that FIEO has completed the study of Uttar Pradesh as regards the potential of exportable products and he shall submit the reports shortly.

Padam Shri Irshad Mirza, eminent businessman, request on behalf of exporters from Kanpur that their interest must be kept in mind while finalizing the Foreign Trade Policy.
