India inks MoU with China to boost handicraft exports |
India has inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with China for promoting its handicrafts across its northern border. The pact has been entered into between the Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts (EPCH) and the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) to survey the prospects of boosting handicraft exports from India to key markets of China. The MoU was signed during the visit of India’s Textiles Secretary Zohra Chatterji, who led a high-level delegation to China, to push handicraft trade and build a brand image for promotion of Indian handicrafts and textiles in China. The delegation held meetings with various trade entities like Shanghai Textile Trade Association, Shanghai Textile Association, Shanghai Mart and Shanghai Import and Export Chamber. As part of the new pact, India would also conduct the first exclusive showcase of Indian handicrafts in China. Besides, both the countries would also organize craft exchange programmes, Reverse Buyer Seller Meets and technique exchange programmes.
