Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO) will urge the central government to give special incentive for modernisation of the exporting industry in West Bengal. This was indicated by Sushil Patwari, regional chairman (eastern region) FIEO at a function to give away export excellence award.
Patwari also added that FIEO will also urge the West Bengal government to consider making each district an export hub to realise the potential of districts and create gainful employment. West Bengal exported goods worth $10 billion in 2018-19 which should increase to $20 billion in next 3 years exploiting the opportunities in China and South East Asia.
FIEO has just concluded their 5th and 6th set of Eastern Region Export Excellence Awards. National Aluminium Company NSE -0.98 % Limited bagged the first position having won the highest foreign exchange earner (eastern region). In the special category for Outstanding Women Entrepreneurs Roma International got the outstanding women entrepreneur award.
Former president of India Mr Pranab Mukherjee was present at the ceremony to give away the awards. The Eastern Region Export Excellence Awards was constituted in 2014 to reward the top performing exporters of Eastern and N-E India and thereby giving due acknowledgement and recognition towards their contribution in the nations and regions foreign trade . The share of Eastern and North Eastern India was a little over 5.5% of India's exports in 2018-19, much below the potential which exist in the region.
