Russia increases export of pig iron in Q1 |
It is reported that demand for pig iron in Q1 in international market
had a growth trend due to increase of steel smelting. In accordance
with WSA data, by result of the first four months 2010 world steel
smelting increased by 31.8% to 467.8 million tonnes.
Russia is among the largest suppliers of merchant pig iron to international market.
According to customs statistics, Russia has exported 755,000 tonnes of
pig iron in March 2010. It is 4.5 times more than the previous month
and 42.6% over March 2009. From the total exported quantity Italy
purchased 432,000 tonnes of pig iron or 57.1%, Turkey which is the
second largest importer of Russian pig iron, purchased 76,000 tonnes.
Totally by result of Q1 2010 export of pig iron from Russia increased
by 8%YoY to 1091 tonnes. Geographical structure of supplies has also
changed: US moved from the second to the third leading position
replaced by Turkey, supplies to China also decreased. As for China we’d
like to note there were no supplies in March in January to February
China imported from Russia 101300 tonnes of pig iron.
