UPA govt responsible for economic morass: Joshi |
VARANASI: Senior BJP leader and local MP Murli Manohar Joshi, referring to the speech of President Pranab Muharjee given on the eve of Republic Day, accused the UPA government at the Centre of compromising with national interests just to save itself.
"In his address to the nation, the President gave an indication and message that instability of government is not in the interest of nation," said Joshi while talking to reporters here on Tuesday.
The President had said, "A fractured government, hostage to whimsical opportunists, is always an unhappy eventuality. In 2014, it could be catastrophic. Each one of us is a voter; each one of us has a deep responsibility; we cannot let India down. It is time for introspection and action. Who wins the coming election is less important than the fact that whosoever wins must have an undiluted commitment to stability, honesty and the development of India. Our problems will not disappear overnight. We live in a turbulent part of the world where factors of instability have grown in the recent past."
Joshi said that the wrong policies of UPA government adversely affected the economic growth and internal security of the country. The support to BJP is increasing gradually and the party is committed to give a stable and strong government, he claimed, adding that there is a need of a stable government under the leadership of Narendra Modi.
Joshi cornered chief minister of Delhi and AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal by referring to President's remark that populist anarchy cannot be a substitute for governance.
Anarchy in any form is not good for the society, he said, adding that attempts are being made to create anarchy and instability. It was unfortunate that a chief minister violating the law sat on dharna, he said and added that it is a serious matter and the Congress is extending its support to it, which is not in the interest of the nation. The anarchist elements could not be allowed to play with the politics, he added.
Criticising the UPA government, Joshi said that it is adopting anti-trader policies that will adversely affect the trading community particularly the small traders. He said that the Central government made law for food security that has many provisions, which are impossible for traders to implement. He said that he had written to the Prime Minister requesting its reassessment and he had also written to the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) for their intervention. FDI in retail, Free Trade Agreement with European countries and other nations are some of the major issues of concern of the traders. He said that the CAIT has planned to organise a big convention in New Delhi on these issues.
Joshi also accused the UP government of losing its hold on law and order in the state. "The attention of the state government is confined to Saifai and adjoining area only. Crores of rupees were spent on Saifai Mahotsava, but there is no sympathy to the poor shivering in cold," he said.
Replying a query regarding the retirement age of politicians, Joshi said, "Jab tak dam mein dam hai tab tak janta ki seva karne ka adhikar hai." He also overruled the speculation regarding his next inning as Rajya Sabha member.
