Subject: Yamaha aims to double exports from India
New Delhi, Sept. 16 India Yamaha Motor Ltd (IYML) announced on Wednesday that it plans to double its exports from India to 140,000 units by 2010. The company also launched its flagship muscle bike VMAX, besides limited editions of the existing Fazer and FZ series of bikes.

“We are constantly shifting gears to transform the market from utility to pleasure and lifestyle. With the launch of all new VMAX, Yamaha brings a new credo for the bikers in India,” said Mr Yukimine Tsuji, Chief Executive Officer, IYML.

He added that though exports had fallen in 2008 and the first half of this year, the company is looking to export 70,000 units of bikes this year and then doubling it by 2010.

He said that India is one of the key markets for Yamaha and with the festival season round the corner, limited editions are expected to be an instant hit amongst biking enthusiasts.

According to the company, the VMAX, which features a 1,679 cc liquid-cooled 4-stroke DOHC V4 engine and uses a link-type Monocross system rear suspension, would be available for Rs 20 lakh, at select Yamaha showrooms in the country.

On the limited edition of Fazer and the FZ series bikes, the company said that only 3,000 units of the models will be produced. While the FZ16 will be priced at Rs 66,500, the FZ-S and Fazer models would cost Rs 68,500 and Rs 73,500 respectively.
