TNT is hopeful of India achieving strong growth, to be fuelled by the improved air and road connectivity, service sector expansion and impending national sales tax introduction which, it is felt, are to boost freight demand. The optimism is bolstered by healthy growth of the Indian economy last year, at a time when many developed countries performed poorly. What has been particularly significant is that many Indian business houses are now expanding not only domestically but also globally. In 2009, TNT's Indian businesses, reports have it, recorded impressive growth, particularly in the hi-tech sector. TNT is working with several Fortune 500 companies in the management of their after-sales businesses through the establishment of distribution centres in key regional locations. Such distribution centres are spread beyond India, into South-East Asia particularly, where the company's air network connects seamlessly to its road transportation system linking Singapore to south of China. A report suggests that TNT's high-growth strategy for India for the current year will focus not only on enhanced international connectivity but also on strengthening of the domestic network.
