STC to import 16,000 tonnes of pulses by Nov |
New Delhi, (PTI) State-run STC has invited global bids for the import of 16,000 tonnes of pulses, to be delivered by November this year.
Bids will close on September 10 and a decision on the award of contracts will be taken on the same day, the trading company said on its website.
STC will import 6,000 tonnes of green lentils, 4,000 tonnes of urad and 2,000 tonnes each of lemon toor, desi chick peas (chana) and red lentils.
Bidders should source the pulses grown in the 2010 crop year from Myanmar, the US, Australia and Canada. The shipments should reach the Mumbai, Chennai and Tuticorin ports by November.
India imports 3-4 million tonnes of pulses every year, as domestic supply is short of demand.
