New Delhi, June 7 The country’s safeguard authority has initiated safeguard investigations on imports of unwrought aluminium, aluminium waste and aluminium scraps into India.
This follows an application filed by Aluminium Association of India on behalf of Nalco India Ltd, Bharat Aluminium Company Ltd, Madras Aluminium Company Ltd and Hindalco Industries.
The applicant had sought imposition of safeguard duty on increased imports of unwrought aluminium, aluminium waste and aluminium scraps into India.
The Director General of Safeguards has, while initiating investigations, noted that there is sufficient prima-facie evidence of surge in imports justifying the initiation of investigation.
On account of the increased imports, one of the companies (Madras Aluminium Company Ltd) has shut its plant since December 2008.
