Reuters reported that French carmaker Renault will produce the new version of its Traffic van at its Sandouville site in France after coming under political pressure to safeguard local jobs.
It may be noted that Renault came under pressure from French politicians at the start of the year to produce the new version of its Clio small car in France. The French state owns 15% of Renault.
The report cited industry ministry sources as well as a CGT union source as saying that the new version of the van, which is currently built in Spain and Britain, would be made in Sandouville, where Renault builds high end cars like the Espace.
Renault has said in the past that it will add production of a commercial vehicle at the Sandouville site, in the Haute Normandie region of northern France, from 2012. But the spokesman declined to specify which model it would be.
