The Central Vigilance Commission disposed 397 cases referred to it for advice. The Commission launched prosecution against 27 officers. Of these, 19 were from Central Board of Excise and Custom (CBEC) and two from Indian Overseas Bank. The Commission advised initiations of major penalty proceedings against 87 officers. Of these, a maximum of 21 were from public sector banks, 11 from HMT Ltd., 10 from Department of Telecommunications, 9 from Northern Coalfields Ltd., 6 from Ministry of Railways and 5 from the Ministry of Urban Development. The remaining 25 cases pertained to different departments of the Government of India and insurance companies.

The Commission also advised imposition of major penalty against 30 officers including 14 from the public sector banks, 4 from the insurance companies, 3 from DDA, 2 each from MCD and Ministry of I&B and one each from CBDT, ITDC, Madras Fertilizers Ltd. and Ministries of Urban Development and Home Affairs. The Commission disposed 685 complaints during the month. Of these, 606 complaints were sent for necessary action/ATR, whereas 79 complaints were sent for investigation and report.

On the Commission’s recommendations, the administrative authorities took action against 129 officers in various departments/organizations. Sanction for prosecution was issued against 57 officers of which 50 were from MCD. Major penalty was imposed on 72 officers including 33 from the insurance companies, 9 from public sector banks, 6 from MCD, 4 each from the Ministry of Railways, Delhi Jal Board and Mahanadi Coalfields Ltd., 3 from NDMC and 2 from DDA.

Recoveries to the tune of Rs.73 lacs were effected after Commission conducted technical examination of some departments.
