New Delhi (PTI): State-run PEC has invited bids for import of 6,000 tonnes of pulses from Mynamar and other countries.
Bids will close on Wednesday and the decision on the tender will be taken by April 29, the company said on its Website.
PEC said that 2,000 tonnes of lemon tur whole grown in 2009 crop year should be sourced from Myanmar. Another 2,000 tonnes each of green moong whole and red lentils from the current crop year can be imported from any country, it said.
Bidder should quote for a minimum quantity of 2,000 tonnes, it added.
PEC also specified that the consignment should adhere to plant quarantine import rules of India.
India imports pulses as output is lower than the demand.
The country's pulses production is estimated to be 14.25 million tonnes in the 2008-09 crop year, while domestic demand is around 17-18 million tonnes.
