Pak to Inspect Sugar Imports from India Before Marketing.

Pakistan Minister for Labour and Manpower Syed Khurshid Shah has told the National Assembly that imported sugar from India would be first inspected and certified by the Pakistan Standards and Quality Control Authority (PSQCA) before distributing it to the market.

Rejecting the claim that Indian sugar was substandard, he said that the samples would be inspected and certified by the PSQCA, and any lots found substandard, would not be marketed the Daily Times reports.

"The lot that is found substandard will not be marketed, and action would be taken against responsible people. If any adulteration is found, the responsible shall be taken to task," Shah said.

The minister further stated that price of the commodity had come down following the decision to allow import.

Rejecting the claim that Indian sugar was being packed in Brazilian bags, he said: "There is nothing hidden about it. This sugar has been imported from India. It is clear and there is no reason to pack it in Brazilian and Thai bags." (ANI)
