Onion Export to India Conditioned |

ISLAMABAD - Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani on Wednesday approved the Commerce Ministry's summery, allowing permission to export onion to only those exporters who made contracts in India before imposition of ban on the commodity's export.
"The Prime Minister had approved the Commerce Ministry's summery in which it sought permission to export onion to only those exporters who made contracts before January 4.
However the Government will not allow exporters to make new contracts in India regarding onion export," said an official of Commerce Ministry. He further said that Commerce Ministry moved a summary to the Prime Minister Secretariat a couple of days ago. The Govt of Pakistan on January 4 imposed ban on onions exports to India through the land route of Wagah border due to soaring commodity prices in domestic market. Due to sudden ban, at least 400 trucks of onions were stuck at the borders, as they already made export contracts in India and it was feared that they might face huge financial loss as commodity might decay in the trucks. Therefore, the Govt on Wednesday decided to allow crossing these loaded trucks to India.
Indian govt has urged the Pakistan Government to at least allow export of onions already loaded on trucks and for which contracts are made.
