Obama Praised for Lifting Dual-Use Tech Exports to India |
President Barack Obama's efforts to strengthen Indo-US ties, including lifting restrictions on dual-use exports to New Delhi, has been praised by a top American lawmaker, saying "it signals the growing trust" between the two countries.
"India is an important ally and strategic partner of the United States. As the two largest democracies in the world, we must continue to strengthen cooperation between our economies and fight to reduce barriers to trade," said Erik Paulsen, the Republican lawmaker who represents Minnesota's Third Congressional District.
"I commend President Obama for lifting restrictions on dual-use exports to India," he said, adding "This important step to lift controls on advance technologies to India signals the growing trust between our countries".
During his landmark three-day visit from November 6, Obama also announced his support for an India's quest for a permanent seat on the UN Security Council.
India is currently at the beginning of a two-year rotation on the Security Council, the powerful UN body that plays a key role in maintaining international peace.
Paulsen, a member of the House Financial Services Committee and co-chair of the House Med Tech Caucus, is a champion of small business and advocate of free enterprise, entrepreneurship, and innovation.
