NZ demand driving up mango exports.

Mango exports have jumped by 25 per cent after 4,000 tonnes of mangoes worth about $15 million were sent to countries across the world last mango season.

About 80 per cent of the mangoes came from Queensland farms.

Australian Mango Industry Association spokesman Trevor Dunmall says China and New Zealand are driving the demand.

"A lot into South East Asia, into the Middle East, some into the UK and Europe but also New Zealand has opened up in the last six to seven years," he said.

"We are in the same window as Peru and Ecuador and our mangos are usually a lot larger and a lot sweeter so we're certainly competing well with them."

Mr Dunmall says exports to New Zealand have increased by 200 per cent.

"One of the major retailers in New Zealand started stocking Australian mangos for the first time last season and that's really lifted the volumes going into New Zealand," he said.

"New Zealand is certainly becoming a strong market for us."
