Mumbai firm bags spices export award |
Spices Board's prestigious "topmost exporter" annual award for 2007-08 and 2008-09 has been bagged by the Mumbai-based Jabs International, which shipped out various spices worth Rs 450 crore and Rs 500 crore in the two years. The company is the leading exporter of jeera and the export basket included whole spices among others. The award is seen as an important breakthrough for exporters based in western India. Bhaskar Shah, managing director of Jabs International and president of Indian Spices and Foodstuffs Association, received the award.
Mumbai-based firms Mehta Exports and Kanukrishna Exports and Ahmedabad-based Kanaiya Exports were given Certificates of Merit by the Spices Board.
Meanwhile spices exports showed steady growth in volume, value as well as in foreign exchange earnings during February. Export of cardamom, chilli, ginger, coriander, garlic, curry powder, spice oils and oleoresins were principal drivers behind the growth. Spices exports increased 12 per cent in value to Rs 392.63 crore in February as against Rs 350.26 crore in January. The earnings in dollar terms grew 19 per cent to $84.7 million ($71.26 million). Export volumes were up 10 per cent to 33,555 tonnes (30,890 tonnes) during the month.
