THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: India exported fishery products worth Rs 8,592.08 crore in 2008-09, an increase of 12.74 per cent from the previous year's Rs 7,620.92 crore.
Export of marine products has maintained its upward trend in the last two years in terms of quantity and value, according to Marine Products Exports Development Authority (MPEDA) sources.
While the quantity of exports marked an increase of 11.20 per cent in 2008-09 from the previous year, growth in value terms was 12.74 per cent, the sources said.
The quantum of marine products exported went up from 5,41,701 tonne in 2007-08 to 6,02,386 tonne in 2008-09.
The fisheries sector of Kerala also put up improved performance in output as well as export during the period.
The state's total marine products output in 2008 stood at 5,83,159 tonne in 2008 against 5,82,561 tonne in 2007. The total catch from inland water sources during the period was 83,057 tonne, they said.
Marine product export from Kerala stood at 1,00,794 tonne in 2008-09, an increase of 0.49 per cent. The amount netted through export during the year was Rs 1,569.82 crore, the sources added.
