Mango export to US to continue till mid-July |
Though the export of mangoes to Japan from Maharashtra, through the city-based Maharashtra State Agriculture Marketing Board (MSAMB), has come to a close this season, mango export to America is going to be on till about the mid of July. The total volume of mangoes dispatched by MSAMB to both the countries so far is 83 metric tones, of which 75 tonnes were exported to the US alone.
While only two varieties of mango, Alphonso and Keshar, are exported to Japan every year, three more varieties — Chausa and Langda that come from North India and Bainganpalli from Andhra Pradesh — are sent to US.
“So far, we have dispatched 75 tonnes of mango to the American market, while the volume of mangoes sent to Japan was 8 tonnes. However, a major portion of export to America is yet to take place. The mango season in North India generally goes on til the mid July so exports will continue till then. Besides Alphonso and Keshar from Maharashtra, the northern varieties of Chausa and Langda are also dispatched through us,” said Santosh Patil, deputy general manager of MSAMB
